Politician critical of Islam receives brutal death threats
"They want to slaughter me like a sheep for criticising Islam," the anti-immigration lawmaker wrote on social media, after having received numerous death threats in the past few days.
Geert Wilders, the leader of the Dutch opposition Party for Freedom, has received countless threats for criticising Islam. Wilders s social media sites have recently become a „repository” of hateful entries that call for the death of the lawmaker. This is how he reacted on his Twitter account:
„They want to kill me, break my neck, attack me, burn me, stone me to death, slaughter me like a sheep and set fire to my house,” all because I critcise Islam, he says, adding that „I m not going to stop, so the threats are pointless”.
Ze willen me komen doden, mijn nek breken, een aanslag op me plegen, verbranden, stenen tegen mijn kop gooien tot mijn dood, met een mes slachten als een schaap, en mijn huis in de fik steken.
Vanwege mijn islamkritiek.
Die nooit zal stoppen.
Dreigen is dus zinloos. pic.twitter.com/aMkfczB80e— Geert Wilders (@geertwilderspvv) May 4, 2020
The Dutch politician has been receiving similar messages for 15 years and has repeatedly said that the threats have become a part of his daily life. There are special security measures in place in his home and he is protected by bodyguards around the clock. Despite these precautions, a Dutch court convicted a 27-year-old Pakistani man last year for planning a terrorist assault on Mr Wilders. For years, the man had persistently threatened to kill the politician, and the court established that, apart from the threats, he actually had a concrete plan for mounting an attack in the building of parliament, the symbol of Dutch democracy.
