Scotland after Brexit

The international media has extensively covered the post-Brexit trade agreement, which both the EU and the UK are trying to portray as a successful and fair deal. However, Scotland is less optimistic about the outcome. First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has indicated that her country wants to become an independent, European nation.

„The UK remains an important partner for the EU,” German Chancellor Angela Merkel said after the conclusion of the Brexit talks. Her ideas, however, have not been unifomly well received in the United Kingdom.

Although most EU leaders have expressed their satisfaction with the deal and see it as a step towards a united future for Europe, Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has once again made it clear that Scotland envisions its path as a member of the European Union outside the UK. She said the Scots wanted to belong to the EU and it was „time to chart our own future as an independent, European nation.”

Ms Sturgeon has recently started a series on Twitter about how her country would be negatively impacted by Brexit, a move rejected by the majority of Scots.

She wrote: „Before the spin starts, it s worth remembering that Brexit is happening against Scotland s will. And there is no deal that will ever make up for what Brexit takes away from us.”
