Trump beats Trudeau in popularity among Canadians
A growing number of Canadians believe the United States is on the right track, surpassing confidence in their own country’s direction.
A new poll from Abacus Data shows that Canadians are more likely to think that America is heading in the „right direction” than Canada. The same poll shows that
Donald Trump has a higher approval rating among Canadians than Canadian PM Justin Trudeau.
„Today, 24percent of Canadians approve of the job performance of the federal government (down 1 percent), while disapproval is steady at 61 percent,” reads the report, as highlighted by The Post Millennial news site.
The poll also tracks Canadians’ impressions of Donald Trump, and the numbers suggest that positive impressions of Trump have steadily increased.
Those with a positive impression about President-elect Trump are up by 6 percent (to 26%), the highest figures measured since the tracking stated in September.
Those with a negative view of Trump are down 7 percent from two weeks ago. However, the research also suggests that – despite being slightly more popular than Trudeau – Donald Trump is still unpopular in Canada.
According to Abacus, „we’ve seen no change in how people feel about the Prime Minister or the performance of the government. The mood of the country has soured a bit – to the lowest level we have ever measured – and now more Canadians believe the United States is headed in the right direction (23 percent) than do think that about Canada (22 percent).”
