Total chaos reigns in City Hall
Despite City Hall s denial in response to our previous query, their plan to introduce a congestion charge seems confirmed. However, it appears as though the actual leaders of the mayor’s office have forgotten to inform the mayor of their intentions.
In recent weeks, traffic in Hungary s capital city has devolved into complete chaos and huge traffic jams have become a permanent feature of Budapest. Citing its source in Brussels, V4NA has already indicated that the road closures in the city were deliberately timed to produce congestions. This is how City Hall is laying the groundwork for the introduction of a congestion surcharge, while pseudo-civil organisations are busy demanding the introduction of a drive-in fee.
All of this, of course, begs the question of why the Mayor s Office in Budapest had previously denied that they were preparing to introduce a congestion charge. According to V4NA s source in Brussels, the decision had long been made among the „actual decision-makers” operating behind the scenes.
It seems the mayor has been left out of the loop and not been informed yet.
In possession of the new information, V4NA wrote to the mayor s office again, asking whether they were still claiming that they had no plans to introduce a congestion charge in Budapest, and whether they still considered V4NA s question – regarding NGOs efforts and initiatives to instate a congestion charge – a provocation formulated out of thin air. Lastly, V4NA also asked the office s opinion about the script which appears to be playing out in reality, even though they denied its existence.
