„As we have predicted in recent months, unemployment is rising and will continue to rise this year, becoming a serious problem in Austria, said Dagmar Belakowitsch, social affairs spokeswoman for the right-wing Freedom Party (FPO), commenting on the latest unemployment figures in Austria on Tuesday.

„The unstoppable wave of insolvencies in our country is fuelling unemployment, among other factors. That is why the Austrian People’s Party and the Greens must finally take action, because placebo measures will not be able to slow down rising unemployment.

the right-wing politician said, recalling that her party has been trying for a year to draw the attention of the ruling parties to the negative developments visible in the labour market, pointing out that people’s welfare is at risk. However, Labour Minister Martin Kocher of the Austrian People’s Party has done nothing of substance, the FPO spokeswoman said.

„The Minister of Labour must now finally get down to the implementation phase of his employment policy measures, which already appear weak, because unemployment will not stop in the coming months, contrary to the government’s claims,”

said Dagmar Belakowitsch. She added that the crisis management measures of the People’s Party and the Greens have failed for years. FPO believes that snap elections as soon as possible are the only way to ensure that politics offers a real perspective again to the Austrian people, she said.
