Reeling under the migrant crisis awakens the French
84 per cent of the French people support total suspension visa issuance for Algerian nationals until Algeria takes back its citizens with deportation orders.
The vast majority of French people, 84 per cent, want a total suspension of visa issuance for Algerian nationals until their country agrees to take back nationals who have been issued deportation orders. The poll, conducted by CSA for CNEWS, the JDD and Europe 1, highlights once again that the French overwhelmingly back immigration policies that their governments never deliver on. The survey was conducted amidst sharp tensions between Paris and Algiers, fueled in part by Algeria’s refusal to take back deported nationals.
The figures show that there is little difference according to gender and age categories. For example, women and men back the measure, 84 percent and 83 percent, respectively. The age groups 50 to 64 as well as 18 to 24 both support this measure at particularly high levels, 87 percent and 86 percent.
While the poll did not specifically ask, it would be interesting to know how many French citizens would support a total suspension of issuing visas to Algerians—regardless of Algeria’s stance on accepting deportees, as noted by Remix News.

It is notable that left-wing French voters also support the measure by a strong majority: 69 per cent of Green Party supporters back the measure while Socialist Party supporters are one percentage point higher in approval. Previous polls highlight how the French want drastic cuts to immigration levels. Last year, another poll showed that 48 per cent of the French people want no migrants to enter France’s territory. This was a jump of 7 percentage points compared to the same survey in October 2021. In that previous poll, only 41 per cent of the French people said they were in favour of zero immigration.
