No-go zone under the Greens city leadership buried in garbage – video

An association has filed a complaint against the city management over the deplorable conditions in a district plagued with drug-addict illegal migrants and where accumulated heaps of garbage make negotiating the streets nearly impossible. When a right-wing politician was filming in the notorious neighbourhood, the crew was attacked by far-left activists.

Lyon’s ill-famed no-go zone, the La Guillotiere district, is slowly being buried under heaps of garbage. An association called La Guillotiere en colere (Angry La Guillotiere) has decided to file a complaint against the city management over the intolerable conditions that prevail in the city’s 7th district, as refuse accumulating in the streets has not been removed for days, the paper Valeurs actuelles reported.

The spokesperson for the association, Nathalie Balmat told BFMTV that they were ready to take the issue to court. Residents living in the district in question want to be treated in the same way as other residents of Lyon. In the district La Guillotiere, street bins are overflowing as they haven’t been emptied for days, and garbage is accumulating all around, she said.

The association contacted the city management over the issue but received no answers to their questions, the collective’s Twitter post reveals.

The collective quoted from a tweet posted in early March by the vice-president of greater Lyon’s regional municipality Isabelle Petiot, who wrote that Lyon is a beautiful and fairly clean city. They then attached pictures taken on 11 May in Paul Bert Street, where the street is clearly covered in garbage.

This is not the first time that Lyon’s Green Party leadership has been harshly criticised. The La Guillotiere neighbourhood is a problematic area infested with drug addicts and illegal migrants. Public safety has deteriorated dramatically with frequent shootings and crime an every-day occurrence.

The violence was witnessed first-hand by Jordan Bardella, president of the National Rally party, while filming a report in the city last November. Left-wing extremists and antifa activists attacked the crew, calling the reporter a fascist and demanding the release of the Daltons rapper band leader, known for his illegal urban rodeos and anti-police actions.

Public safety in the neighbourhood is extremely poor, as recently highlighted by students with the initiative „Mon chemin serein” (My calm walk). Students started a petition last December to end classes early on the campus near la Guillotiere. They say the area is very dangerous and not safe to walk in after sundown, and that several students have already been attacked. According to the regional newspaper Lyon Mag, the petitioners demanded a switch to online classes after 5.30 pm so that they would not have to walk through the dangerous area in the dark.
