EU's self-professed peace role has failed
The EU elite's apparent credo of "achieving peace with more and more weapons" fails in the face of reality and only profits arms manufacturers, Herbert Kickl pointed out.
„For three years, people have been dying day after day—civilians, soldiers, women, and children. Untold suffering and unimaginable horror have taken their toll on the lives of millions of people. Ending the war as soon as possible must therefore be the top priority. Unfortunately, the EU, as a self-proclaimed peace project, has completely failed in this regard. Instead, it focuses solely on more self-destructive and ineffective sanctions, arms deliveries that cause more suffering, and irresponsible war rhetoric, while being unable to utter the word ‘peace’,” said Herbert Kickl, leader of the Freedom Party of Austria (FPO). He emphasized that Donald Trump’s recent initiatives to bring the warring parties to the negotiating table should be welcomed, as they bring the world closer to a ceasefire and a peaceful resolution.
Kickl criticized the 16th EU sanctions package and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen’s armament plan, seeing their impending approval as further proof that the EU is heading in the wrong direction, punishing its own citizens rather than Russia.
The FPO leader also pointed out that since the outbreak of the war, Austria’s previous government sacrificed the country’s historical neutrality, which he believes not only caused severe damage to Austria but also failed to seize historic opportunities.
„By blindly going along with the sanctions regime of von der Leyen and her allies, they have caused unprecedented decline in prosperity for our people. By pouring millions into Zelensky’s regime and joining the chorus of war-mongers, Austria’s unity parties prevented our country from assuming the only role it should have played: positioning Austria as a venue for mediation and negotiations to end the war in the name of neutrality,”
he said, and expressed hope that Trump’s peace initiatives will ultimately succeed, bringing an end to the bloodshed. „The EU elite’s apparent credo of ‘achieving peace with more and more weapons’ fails in the face of reality and only makes arms companies the winners, while Ukraine’s population and our taxpayers are the main losers. Therefore, let this anniversary of Russia’s attack on Ukraine be the last one we mark in the ongoing war, and let’s put an end to the senseless loss of life as soon as possible,” Herbert Kickl concluded.
