As violence spreads in schools across Sweden, teachers are trying new ways to tackle the problem. One school district, for example, has started using an app called CoSafe, which enables the school administration to quickly reach all teachers and alert them to the danger if necessary.

„It is a simple way to communicate and it’s been working very well. For example, when a fight broke out in one of the schools, a teacher sent a message so several people rushed to the scene.

School Director Bjorn Gustafsson told Hallandsposten.

Now they want to implement the next step with the app, which also has a feature that can send a text message to all students in the event of a crisis situation.

This could be used if a potential violent offender enters the school. They could then inform students where to go for safety, or to lock themselves in and so on.

They said that fire drills are held regularly,

and that they have also been having drills to prepare for what to do if an armed person enters the school building and opens fire.

In cooperation with the local authority and the police, school staff are continuously being trained on how to deal with a situation of „lethal violence”.
