Herbert Kickl, leader of the Freedom Party of Austria, has lashed out at Ursula von der Leyen for the outgoing European Commission president's new attack against Hungary.

The Freedom Party of Austria (FPO) has called on the Austrian federal government to condemn the policy pursued by Ursula von der Leyen against Hungary, aiming to boycott the EU presidency. MEPs of the governing Austrian People’s Party (OVP) should vote against the re-election of Ursula von der Leyen, said Herber Kickl, president of the FPO.

„Ursula von der Leyen is the symbol and negative figurehead of the undemocratic aloofness of the EU bureaucracy with its profoundly anti-democratic self-image and of the self-appointed elite’s detachment from the peoples of Europe,”

Kickl said. He believes the European Commission, as originally intended, should be an employee of the EU member states, not the boss. Chancellor Karl Nehammer must make it clear that the re-election of Ursula von der Leyen would be a betrayal of the European peoples’ right to self-determination and a slap in the face for those who want peace on the continent.
