The coronavirus situation in the Czech Republic gives cause for concern, the UN World Health Organisation announced on Monday. According to the statement, the infection is already present and intensifying in several regions, and the Czech government is not handling the situation properly, as „testing, contact tracing, and isolation are the only ways to fight Covid,” the organisation says.

Responding to the statement, Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babis took to Twitter to say: „I ve read the WHO s statement,” adding that „at first the organisation did not recommend the wearing of face masks and did not even acknowledge that there was a pandemic. I think they should remain silent.”

The Czech premier confirmed that he heard about the organisation s concerns via the Czech media, which was eager to criticise his government. In response, Babis cited the Czech Republic s „death rate / one million people” indicator, saying the country was doing „quite well” in that respect.
