Tech companies dominate the list of Europe s fastest-growing businesses compiled by the Financial Times for the fourth time this year. Firms engaged in information and mobile technology along with e-commerce make up over a quarter of the annual FT 1000 ranking. In the category of fashion, a French and a Hungarian company made it to top of the list on the basis of their growth rate in 2018.
Greta Thunberg to trademark her name and Fridays for Future
Climate activist Greta Thunberg’s family has applied to trademark her name and the Fridays For Future climate movement she started from scratch in 2018. While their official explanation is to make the financials of the movement more transparent, the move could also boost the family’s not insignificant wealth through the sale of brand products. Greta has submitted the application to the EU s Intellectual Property Office, EUIPO, through her mother’s foundation, the German Die Zeit learned.
Winner of L Oreal award promotes hijab in fashion industry
In Sweden a Muslim fashion blogger has been picked for the “Look of the Year” award in collaboration with L´Oreal Paris. Moroccan-born Imane Asry said the award meant that it was time to normalise the use of hijab in the fashion industry. The full-face veil, however, is considered a symbol of oppression against women and is banned in several European counties.
Hungarian fashion brand to send 25 thousand euros to Sri Lanka
Nanushka has offered 25,000 euros to victims of the Easter atrocities in Sri Lanka. Szandra Sandor, the founder of the Hungarian brand and her business partner Peter Baldaszti were deeply shaken by the terrorist attacks in the country and will donate the 25,000 euros to help those affected.
International success for the Hungarian fashion industry
The Hungarian brand Nanushka is well-known abroad, with world stars regularly wearing the Hungarian designer clothes. Most recently, the 2019 Pre-Fall collection of the brand was named winner of the International Design Awards. Budapest to become the fashion world s European hub
At least between 29th and 31st March, when the Budapest Central European Fashion Week is being held. The event organised by the Hungarian Fashion and Design Agency will allow around 40 Hungarian and international designers to showcase their 2019/20 autumn-winter collection in the Budapest Varkert Bazar.
