Polish broadcaster PBS surveyed Poles regarding their views on some of the most significant and contentious issues in the EU. The results indicated that the majority of respondents are opposed to banning the registration of passenger cars with internal combustion engines after 2035.

Specifically, 67 per cent of respondents are against this legislation: 46 per cent said „strongly against” and 21 per cent „somewhat against”.

By contrast, just over a quarter of respondents (28 per cent) were in favour of the idea, while 5 per cent had no strong opinion on the issue. Society showed little variation when grouped based on other factors. Residents in rural areas (74 per cent), small towns (71 per cent), medium-sized municipalities (66 per cent), and metropolitan areas with more than 500,000 inhabitants (56 per cent) all expressed scepticism. Additionally, 60 per cent of respondents with tertiary education, 68 per cent of those with secondary education, and a majority of those with vocational education and training, as well as most of those with primary education (71 per cent each), oppose the new legislation.

The survey also probed Poles’ opinion about the proposal that forestry would be removed from the exclusive jurisdiction of member states and would belong under a common EU policy.

More than half (58 per cent) oppose this proposal: 37 per cent of them answered „strongly against”, with 21 per cent saying „somewhat against”.

By contrast, 34 per cent of the people support the proposal. Results show that the opponents of curbing member state powers carry a majority in all age groups, regardless of distribution by level of education.

The survey also asked the Poles about two proposals by the NGO called C40, which would limit meat consumption to an annual 16 kilograms per person, and would also limit clothing purchases to 8 new items per person per year. The overwhelming majority of Poles, 75 per cent, opposed the proposal on restricting meat consumption, with 73 per cent rejecting the one on new clothing purchases.
