The latest opinion poll reveals that only 28 per cent of Poles think Ukraine will win the war against Russia, 33 per cent think they will lose, and 39 per cent are uncertain. The poll conducted by SW Research for the Wprost weekly showed that

Poles are losing faith in Ukraine’s ability to win the war that broke out with the Russian invasion.

In the first few months of the war, Poles were more optimistic, especially after Ukraine managed to recapture Kherson and part of the Kharkiv region raising hopes of an imminent victory. However, with the failure of the counterattack in 2023, this belief has dissipated, reports the RMX News portal.

According to the survey, men are more optimistic about Ukraine’s prospects, 31 per cent of them believing that Ukraine can win, while only 24.5 percent of women share this opinion.

However, the results of SW Research’s survey are still more optimistic than the findings of the European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR). According to the latter study, only 17 per cent of Poles and only 10 per cent of the EU population uphold an eventual Ukrainian triumph, while 20 per cent believe that the Russians have a better chance of victory.

In the ECFR survey, 37% of people across Europe think that a negotiated solution will be found. The think-tank’s analysis of the polling data also found that the failure of the counter-offensive, as well as reports of dwindling US support also contributed to the Europeans’ pessimism regarding Ukraine’s odds in the war.
