George Soros to protect his influence in Poland

Adam Bodnar, a man with strong ties to US stock market speculator George Soros’s network, served as Poland s Ombudsman for citizens rights in the past five years. Mr Bodnar’s term expired last year, but his successor is still unknown. One candidate, however, is being supported by strikingly many NGOs.

Polish Ombudsman Adam Bodnar s term expired on 9 September 2020. His 5-year appointment, however, did not end that day, as Mr Bodnar could retain his post until his successor was elected. The debate over who should become Poland s new ombudsman for citizens rights began in August and no successor has since been found. The ombudsman is appointed by the Sejm, the lower house of the Polish parliament, a move which requires approval by the Senate.

There are palpale links between Adam Bodnar and the network of US stock market speculator George Soros. Among other things, Mr Bodnar took part in the preparation of the EU s rule of law report regarding Poland.

Mr Bodnar studied at Soros s Central European University. He worked for the Helsinki Committee from 2004 to 2015 and then for the Batory Foundation, also founded by Soros. This foundation has ties to the European Stability Initiative (ESI), set up by the Autrian Gerald Knaus, also known as Soros s right-hand man.

A study published by ESI two years ago examined Poland s judicial reform. It concluded that the establishment of a disciplinary chamber violated the independence of the Supreme Court. The lobby organisation sponsored by Soros s foundation called on the European Commission to launch infringement proceedings against Poland. The Batory Foundation partnered with the European Stability Initiative in preparing the 16-page document, with Gerlad Knaus and Adam Bodnar presenting their position together in Brussels.

Apparently, Soros does not want to lose his influence in Poland.

Currently, there are three candidates for the post of Ombudsman:

  • Robert Gwiazdowski (Polish People s Party and Confederation),
  • Piotr Wawrzyk (Law and Justice, PiS),
  • Zuzanna Rudzinska-Bluszcz.

The candidacy of Zuzanna Rudzinska-Bluszcz was backed by Adam Bodnar and more than a thousand smaller or larger NGOs. The list of supporters has been called into question by some, who argued that the list has been tampered with and, as a result, it does not reflect reality. Polish history professor Stanislaw Zerko says some organisations may not even be aware that they have lent their support to Zuzanna Rudzinska-Bluszcz with their signatures.

„I called the number I found on the Matecznik Association s website. The nice gentleman who answered the phone said he didn t know that the Association supports Zuzanna Rudzinska-Bluszcz (in fact, they didn t even know who she was), appearing on her list of supporters,” Zerko wrote on Twitter.

In another one of his posts, Stanislaw Zerko shared a list revealing that the same organisation is featured on multiple occasions, with the town where its local branch operates being added for distinction.

„In your opinion, are there 8 different organisations or just one? Are you proud of this list of supporters?” – the professor asked.

The Batory Foundation, set up and funded to this day by George Soros, also contributed to compiling the list of supporters.

Speaking to the Onet.pl portal, Ewa Kulik-Bielinska, the foundation s director said they have been contacted by some organisations that wished to withdraw their support. Some may have failed to consult their colleagues before putting their names on the list of supporters, she explained.

The Batory Foundation has awarded lavish grants to various organisations under its „Active Citizens” (Aktywni Obywatele) programme, according to the Polish wPolityce portal.

The organisation Civic Network – Watchdog Polska played an active role in collecting signatures for Zuzanna Rudzinska-Bluszcz. The Batory Foundation has pumped more than 137 thousand zlotys (appr. 30 thousand euros) into the organisation.
