Media coverage full of victims of colour of alleged police violence

While white victims of terrorist attacks are soon forgotten, the media continues to echo the names of people of colour who died or suffered injuries while resisting police, a well-known politician said. A renowned publicist said it cannot be a coincidence that only black and Arab criminals complain about police, Asians never do.

French police have been the target of numerous attacks of late. Many believe that officers use excessive force against offenders, especially if they are people of colour or Arab descent. On the last weekend of November and the first weekend of December, far-left sympathisers staged large-scale national demonstrations against police violence, in which several officers were injured.

Eric Zemmour, the internationally recognised French essayist-publicist, has defended the officers. In an interview with the CNews television channel, he touched on Emmanuel Macron s claims that police tend to stop and inspect non-whites far more often than white people and described the French president s statement as simply false. He pointed out that, rather interestingly, people of Asian descent living in France never complain about excessive police control. According to Zemmour, the officers do not judge people by their appearance, but by their behaviour. He added that police inspections are by definition more common in neighborhoods of dubious reputation, and argued that there was no police violence in France.

Eric Zemmour also shared his view that democracy in all Arab-Muslim countries merely means the victory of political Islam, noting that there is no liberal democracy in these countries.

Jordan Bardella, a deputy of the National Aggregation Party, was in agreement with Zemmour. He also denied the existence of appearance-based police inspections or systemic racism on the part of law enforcement officers. He said the phenomenon was due to the fact that a large number of criminals are, in fact, immigrants.

The politician said it was ironic that while everyone is familiar with the names of  Adama Traore – aka the French George Floyd – and Michel Zecler (a black music producer beaten by officers), because these incidents have receive massive media coverage, 40 days after the Nice terrorist attack no one can recall the names of its three victims. According to Bardella, there is a selective data exchange when it comes to the police and it its nortured by the left. For instance they keep mentioning the name of Jean-Luc Melenchon, the president of the France Unbowed party, who wants to disarm police and has publicly supported the victims of police violence, referring to them as martyrs.
