Migratory pressure is not easing on Italy, where 11,000 illegal immigrants are reported to have arrived in one week. Some of the migrants have landed on the island of Lampedusa, which is already completely full. More than a week ago, it was reported that the island, with a population of less than 6,000, already hosted nearly one thousand illegal immigrants, and their numbers have been just growing ever since.

Former Italian Interior Minister Matteo Salvini reported on his Twitter yesterday that another 250 „tourists” had arrived in Lampedusa. The leader of the Lega party also shared a video about the arrival of the migrants.

Matteo Salvini claims the Italian government is an accomplice to human smugglers.

„Another 250 tourists have arrived in Lampedusa, thanks to Conte and a government accomplice to human smugglers and criminals, who are taking me to court for defending the borders, while the explosion of a social and health bomb is approaching,” Salvini wrote, referring to his immunity being waived.

Salvini also wrote that the left-wing Italian government is making decisions in favour of NGOs and helps to protect the French border, so that „illegal migrants can stay in Italy,” and the Democratic Party is granting citizenship to the immigrants.

„The government is incompetent and dangerous,” he pointed out.

Salvini has a reason to talk about a health bomb. According to the news, 28 migrants, out of which 9 had coronavirus, have escaped from the reception centre in Regusa, Sicily. Local police tried to prevent the outbreak but were unsuccessful, and a police officer was injured.

Migrant escapes are constant in Sicily. Recently, about five hundred illegal immigrants left the quarantine in the port of Porto Empedocle without permission. Prior to that, illegal immigrants under quarantine had escaped from the Caltanissetta migrant centre in Sicily. Initially, the authorities said a hundred immigrants had left, but later it turned out to be 184 people, 118 of whom were captured.
