The temperature on Metro 3 trains in Budapest is 35 degrees Celsius, the heat is unbearable, and even goes up to 40 degrees during heat alerts, campaigners said last summer in Budapest. The carriages still run without air conditioning. Criticism turns out to be a simple promotional hoax.

Politicians wearing sauna towels and beach slippers held a press conference to draw attention to the heat passengers experience on the trains of Budapest metro line 3. They asked: metro or sauna?

Gergely Karacsony, who measured 34.8 °C in one of the carriages on metro line 3 during a heat alert,

said: „In an era of climate change, travelling underground without air conditioning is a challenge indeed.”

Despite the promise made at the time that passengers will be travelling in air-conditioned metro carriages in Budapest, not even a call for tenders has been announced. Residents in Hungary s capital may as well forget this promise.
