Serbian president discloses prime minister-designate
Aleksandar Vucic spoke on Saturday morning about who he would propose for the post.
Incumbent Prime Minister Ana Brnabic is the person he proposes as head of government, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic announced. Ms Brnabic has been the premier of the country since 2017, this will be her third term.
The decision was complex and complicated, both within the party and with coalition partners,
pannonrtv.com quoted Mr Vucic as saying, adding that the other candidates for prime minister will be extremely important members of the government.
Milos Vucevic will have a number of important roles in addition to his position as vice president of the government, while Ivica Dacic will also hold the position of Coordinator of the Security Services, in addition to his ministerial and deputy prime ministerial posts. However, the president also noted that this government will not have a four-year mandate, and that there will be a reshuffling of the cabinet in 2024.
The Serbian Progressive Party won the early parliamentary elections in April 2022. The current government coalition includes the Socialist Party of Serbia, led by Ivica Dacic, as well as the Hungarian Association of Vojvodina and other national minorities.
