Soros densely entrenched in European Court of Human Rights

US stock market speculator George Soros appears to be meddling with the judiciary, but not only in the US. According to a report published by the European Center for Law and Justice (ECLJ), there are at least 7 NGOs that can be linked to various European Court of Human Rights justices and Soros s money is perceptible behind almost all of them.

Earlier this year, French conservative weekly Valeurs Actuelles looked into how George Soros has infiltrated the international court. The story began in Strasbourg, where the ECHR has its headquarters. Of the many NGOs operating here, the European Centre for Law and Justice (ECLJ) has been an active participant of lobbying activities aimed at influencing the judges. Its director, French constitutional lawyer Gregor Puppinck, has been involved in the court s work in numerous areas, and maintains a good relationship with most of its members.

In a bid to unravel the relationship between Soros s network and the ECHR, Mr Puppinck has reviewed the CVs of a hundred justices who have worked at the body since 2009, to see if they are affiliated with any NGOs. Following six months of research and poring throigh publicly available data provided by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, he published a 200-page study detailing the structure of Soros s network of NGOs, including its infiltration and influence over the European Court of Human Rights, which he has been systematically trying to shape according to his own ideology.

The ECJL report states that „the seven NGOs from which judges come act before the Court in important cases likely to set precedents, and most often relating to freedom of expression, the right to asylum, LGBT rights, conditions of detention, and minority rights.”

Concerns about conflict of interest within the ECHR seem to be well-founded. In May, 150 European lawyers and jurists issued a joint appeal to ECHR to remedy this situation, demanding that the judges, among others, should be required to publish declarations of interest.

However, the European Court of Human Rights appears to have friends in key positions. In May European Commission Vice President Vera Jourova stressed that „the Commission has no doubt as regards the integrity and independence of the European Court of Human Rights.”
