More than 100,000 people protested in the streets of Skopje, the capital of North Macedonia, V4NA reports.

The demonstrators took to the streets to protest against the social democratic government. They were led by Hristijan Mickoski, the president of the conservative Christian Democratic party VMRO DPMNE party.

Mr Mickoski pointed out that there is an urgent need for elections because of the rising inflation, corruption and crime in the ranks of government, and the stalemate in North Macedonia’s EU integration.

The Balkan country faces a veto in its EU accession talks from neighbouring Bulgaria, and the government has profoundly failed on economic reforms. Opinion polls show a convincing opposition lead, but Prime Minister Kovacevski avoids calling for elections.
