EU member state with biggest fuel price hike revealed

Figures by Brussels show that fuel prices have fallen in two EU countries since the start of the war, but have risen sharply in all others.

No EU member state has seen a bigger price hike of diesel per litre than Germany since the start of the Russia-Ukraine war. The data was released by the European Commission on the initiative of The Left party in the Bundestag.

According to EU data published by Funke Mediagroup, the price of diesel in Germany increased by 38 euro cents per litre between the days before the war began and 25 April: from 1.66 euros to 2.04 euros per litre. Sweden and Latvia have seen a similar price hike, while France and Italy recorded a 17-cent and a 5-cent increase, respectively.

Over the period since the beginning of the year, the price of diesel in Germany (up to 25 April) has risen by a total of 47 euro cents per litre. Since the start of the war, Germans have had to pay 23 euro cents more for a litre of 95 petrol, while in Austria the price of petrol has risen by 24 cents over the same period.

In Hungary, on the other hand, the price of fuel has fallen by 6 cents since the outbreak of the war, Funke Mediagroup reports based on the data published by the European Commission.
